Cathy McMorris Rodgers is a key GOP shutdown anti government supporter from Washington state. She represents a district that would be desert but for federal dams, empty but for a giveaway of land to build a railroad, more empty but for the Homestead Act giving government land to settlers, and today utterly dependent on cheap power and water provided by...the federal government. Plus many of her constituents probably receive government agricultural subsidies. How many of her constituents depend on Social Security and Medicaid?
Here's a question: how many of the 50 or so Tea Party representatives shutting down our government represent districts are from similarly dependent on federal largesse and support? How many have in their district one or two military bases? How many of these representatives are avoiding the financial impacts other regions suffer because soldiers and contractors serving those soldiers continue to be paid?
I wonder - can someone do a correlation among Tea Party and conservative GOP seats and military bases and overall federal support provided the districts they represent? I bet the answer will be pretty revealing....And if, as I suspect, it becomes clear that they are utterly hypocritical and utterly dependent on the very government they so publicly demonize, aren't they then guilty of violating their Congressional oath at a minimum?
