Stand with furloughed federal workers and those forced to work without pay on Monday, October 14. Stay home, don't go to work, don't shop. Hold rallies and demonstrations at your local federal buildings, even if it's just a post office. #Shutdownthecountry
The conversation that keeps our country's governance going in an orderly fashion has been co-opted by a reactionary minority faction of the Republican party. Apparently they never had a civics class or didn't learn how to get along with others in kindergarten. At any rate, they have no clue about orderly governance of our democracy. We must stop the nonsense now.
Yes, we need a conversation on our national spending and debt; no one is arguing that. However, the keyword is conversation and it has to be held in the larger context of corporate welfare; how to deal with companies keeping their profits off shore - should they even be considered US companies; how an individual is defined - should we redefine a person as a corporeal human; do we value our citizens enough to keep them healthy and nourished? These and other questions and issues need to be part of the discussion. This country cannot afford to kowtow to the Tea Party any longer. We have humored them long enough.
Right now we have an opportunity to take control of our own governance. We can demand a clean Continuing Resolution, a 12 month increase in the Debt Ceiling and we can take power away from the reactionary minority.
Monday October 14th is the day to go forth and be a patriot. #Shutdownthecountry
9:47 AM PT: In the Poll I know Monday is the 14th, but my fingers typed 12th. It can't be edited apparently. The correct date is the 14th. Sorry for creating confusion.
