It's Sunday!

Itzl AlertingAs you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here.  We care!

We have split up the publishing duties, but we welcome everyone in IAN to do daily diaries for the group!  Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
If you would like to fill in, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMom a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FSNMom is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.

If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.

I talked to my mother Friday evening.  She said she and my stepfather went to see Steve Martin's show a few days ago, when he played in Seattle.  They were still feeling their colds, but they were on a balcony that had separate chairs and were able to stay a little bit away from everybody else.  She said she had never seen the place so full - and the show was hilarious.

She also told me that my stepfather won two tickets to see Emmy Lou Harris next month in a drawing they had that night.  Care to guess who are big fans of Emmy Lou Harris?

Saturday was a chiropractic visit (BOTH my feet this time - I really need to stop hurting myself and then waiting to deal with it).  I had to go in the back because the new cement at the front entry hadn't finished curing.

I got up early enough to clean the cat box and take the trash out before I left for the appointment.  And I got my payday grocery run done immediately afterward.  Nap, thereafter - chiropractic visits can be a bit of a strain sometimes.

I had planned to go to the library, since my Friday afternoon got interrupted with a family emergency that shot my intention to cut out a little early from work and go to the library then all to hell.  Considering my book addiction, it says a lot about how I feel about the people involved that I actually changed my plans.

I still have one signature to collect on the marriage equality petition of the 25 I promised to collect.  My chiropractor signed when I asked her - actually, all I did was mention it and she stuck out her hand for the clipboard.  I find it much more difficult to ask people I know to do this sort of thing than to ask total strangers.  I got 13 in the first four days I had the petitions, on the initial wave of enthusiasm (and plans to go out of town for that particular weekend), and turned those in before I left.  It's taken me two months to get this many more.  I had hoped to get two signatures at the chiropractor's office, but her office assistant wasn't at work.

On the way to the chiropractor's, I was listening to the radio and the DJ came on with some announcements.  One was that the approval rating for Congress was currently 5% - that cockroaches had a higher approval rating - and that it had been said that comparing them to Congress wasn't being fair to the cockroaches.

I would find the situation a lot more amusing if I didn't know too many people who are facing serious trouble because of the shutdown.  I am glad that the number of people who understand it's the House Republicans who caused this mess is growing.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
