I continue to believe that a deal will be reached. Although I acknowledge that there is a real chance that we go over the cliff.
The deal will be negotiated. It is being negotiated.
"But wait--I thought we didn't negotiate with terrorists?"
Let's just say the "terrorism" metaphor is limited.
And we are negotiating.
Please understand--I am not complaining. This insanity has got to be negotiated.
And POTUS and Reid have got to do the negotiating. There's no other way out.
The question is, what will we give in the negotiation?
A lot of rumors are circulating. Some are encouraging. Others aren't.
I love the rumor of us suddenly demanding an end to sequestration so that a clean CR seems like a win to the Thugs.
I do not at all like rumors of shorter term resolutions, concessions on "entitlements" and so forth.
Who knows?
But the world money men are demanding this be resolved, and they always win.
I think the key question is whether the results will have winning optics or whether Dems will be seen to have made concessions. I prejudge nothing. I don't know how the deal will go down and public response is fairly unpredictable.
But Dems have to be seen to have "won." God help us if we are seen to have "caved."
I also note with enormous sadness and disgust that "our party" seems at long last to have grown some spine. But what they are defending is ...
The financial assets dominated by the wealthy.
We'll know we are getting somewhere when the DEM Party shows spine defending the people.
