While I'm currently embroiled in the troubles of day to day living, I just want to say that I'm completely confused about what the hell is going on in congress theses days.
Government is shut down. I know that much so far. It's shut down right? I'm right about that, right?
Uh....we're facing another debt ceiling increase. Right?
Something about the sequester. Right?
John Boehner blah blah Tea Party Ted Cruz...enough said there. Something about congressman getting a paycheck so he's fine with things as they are.
The benefit of looking at the news from this completely bewildered perspective, because I have other more pressing shit going on right now, is I think I have a pretty good handle on how the average joe looks at the news; a general background of ideological struggle over shit I don't even really care about day to day. Who has time to bicker over this shit?
Oh right. The people we pay to bicker over this shit.
At the end of the day, most of us just want to have kids, grow old and die surrounded by fat grandchildren. Who the hell cares about Ted Cruz's political career or getting into some long-drawn-out-battle over Obamacare, love or hate it?
I mean, forget about businesses hating uncertainty. I hate uncertainty. Normal people....we hate uncertainty.
Not to say Americans are lazy. We're practical. Where Republicans miscalculated here is in believing anybody but retired people and paid pundits have the time or emotional energy to devote to their stupid war on Obamacare....and most retired people have better things to do like square dancing, cribbage, and playing with grandchildren anyway.
I don't know.
There's no lack of power hungry freaks out there calling on people to follow them into some ideological abyss. Maybe we're entering into an era of Mega Cults. Social media makes isolation and thought policing practical on a larger scale. Folks scared to be ostracized from their friends and family for posting something wrong on Facebook. And everybody's out to recruit new people for their favorite cult. And they all lead to paradise. And they're all just and inherently right - building a morality around everything from fiscal policy to where you buy your fucking apples.
The government shutdown is just another example of this crap. Ideological bickering and king making while the rest of us just want to get on with our fucking lives.
