The other day I read a comment by someone whose nom de Kos indicates that she is a former Midwesterner who now lives in Los Angeles. I don't think I've met her, but I'd like to. So this is for you, person whom I not going to embarrass in public and other L.A. residents who have not joined our monthly meetups.
We have been getting together for lunch and conversation once a month for almost a year. Although we are called Los Angeles Kossacks, group member's zip codes range from Huntington Beach to north of the Valley. Navajo is on the list and she lives near San Francisco. We've been meeting here and there; locations are chosen because of their proximity to public transportation. Not all of us have cars and so we want to be within walking distance of the bus or train, preferably the train.
One of the things I've been thinking about is having some meetups that are family friendly, in case that would encourage people who can only come if they can bring their kids, like a picnic or something else. If that's you and you have some suggestions, please Kosmail me with your ideas.
We haven't done anything political as a group yet, but I know Navajo is encouraging that. Shockwave has some ideas (Shockwave has lots of good ideas about lots of things) and that's something else that you can contribute: suggestions for political action.
Dave in Northridge and I would also appreciate restaurant suggestions for places located near any of the L.A. train lines. Send either of us Kosmail with that.
I send out an email notice every month with the info about the upcoming meetup. Kosmail me if you would like to be on the list. The New York Times informs me that lots of people don't email these days, for them text is best. So, I think I'll start an additional list for those who prefer to get a text notice. If you're already on my list, but would prefer text to email, let me know and if you want to be added to either list, do the same.
