My profile tells me that I've been here for 10 years as "kid oakland" as of, well, today.
I'd like to take the briefest of diaries to express my appreciation of this community, its readers, diarists, comment makers, activists and trouble makers.
Ten years ago I was a politically active 30something with a brand spankin' new iMac Graphite (600mhz under the hood, baby) and a dial up modem ready and eager to find like-minded folks on the internet.
My buddy awol told me to check out this website dailykos.com.
And so I did...
The rest is archived here, but so much more...of our history, our political journey, our wins and our losses as progressives...is written between, and outside, the lines of our blog posts and comments.
If I had one thing to say looking back (other than thank you to kos and the dailykos crew...and that Meteor Blades rocks) it would be this.
I would like to thank every last kossack.
(And for those who remember all the battles we've had...that means something!)
All of us here know that our writing and our reading are deeply connected. In my case, that is certainly true and I want to express that.
I wrote, and found a voice, writing for this community. I got better at writing and commenting, because I had to, but mostly because this community called out the best in me.
When we started, we were in very tough straits as Democrats. Over the years, that has changed...but, for as much as hope and hard work have prevailed, it is clear today that we are in equally tough straits as human beings living on this planet.
There is so much important work to do, today, in October 2013. Ten years in, we have so much unfinished business.
We can, and do, talk about that every day.
Tonight I'd just like to say thanks.
