In one of the best articles I have ever read Julie Driscoll of www.addictinginfo.org/ perfectly describes what these Tea Party Assholes are all about. The article is here. Here are the traits she describes in the article. I have thought this a long time but she does an excellent job of putting it all into focus.

Like abusers, Republicans must win at all costs.

Like abusers, Republicans will invalidate you.

Like abusers, Republicans will grind you down

Like an abuser, Republicans don’t care who they hurt.

On our side of the fence individuals for the most try to take a look at our motivations, seek to come to some sort of compromise with others and try to act with as much integrity as we can. To the Tea Party types these are weaknesses to be taken advantage of. Enough is enough. It is time to do what Julie advises.

Now, it’s time to call their bluff.

This is what the President and the Democrats did when these abusers threatened to blow up the economy of the country they supposedly love. We must always be aware of what we are dealing with.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  I have friends who fit this description, and yes, (8+ / 0-)

they're don't-call-me-racist teabaggers.  They are free with their abuse, and when called on it, show amusement and offer elaborately condescending/insulting 'nopologies' with every show of real satisfaction.

Respond to or speak to them in kind, and they can and will be quite brutal, as if trashing their friends and family is somehow their right, wholly appropriate, and entirely your fault (for which you out to apologize more believably than they did).

It is indeed an abuser's double-standard;  I no longer have enough friends or family to be able to absorb the bullying from the ones I still have.

    •  I had quite a few of the people like this (11+ / 0-)

in my life especially in my family. I finally learned that people have to behave if they want to have a relationship with me. I have two nephews who I cut off. They think it is about politics. It is not. It is about behavior. When I stopped putting up with this nonsense a great thing happen. Some changed their behavior others I let go. The end result is the same. I do not have this sort of shit in my life anymore.

speech, as do all her favorite hate radio and tv personalities, but god forbid someone on the left disagrees with her.  We don't have the same right to free speech.  They're almost childish in their behavior, as if they don't have the ability to progress beyond a certain age.  It's baffling, and I'm curious about the physiology, if any, behind it.  Perhaps a chemical lacking or overabundant that makes them behave in such an unacceptable way.

with a crazed person who wants to kill you. There is nothing you can do. I do not know if has a physical part or not but that should be investigated. The thing I alway try to remember is that it is not the content of what the person is saying but the behavior itself.

I think it is vital that people on our side of the street understand what Ms Driscoll is saying . I would make the article required reading if I had the power. We knew it already but she gives a clear concise reality what the behavior of these people is about. These are not mentally healthy individuals.

  •  It's been a long time since I've read Game Theory (6+ / 0-)

but there's tenet in this theory that states if a 'player' is loosing at a game, certain personality types, instead of loosing gracefully as you or I might, they will instead ruin or destroy the game rather than loose.

I suspect this personality trait and the abusive trait have a similar origin.

about it. I am going to have to read it more carefully. What is interesting is how people react to a purely intellectual debate. If it gets crazy there is something weird going on and the communication is not just the words or ideas but a different type of communication is going on.
