Major Update 9:20: According to Sparks Police at the press conference the total number of people shot is four.  Two, including the shooter, are dead and two more are in the hospital are in critical condition.  Please ignore the other counts below.
Details are just coming in so I will just post the link to the relevant Reno Gazette-Journal article for now.

At any rate a 12 year old has been shot at Sparks Middle School in Sparks, NV (adjacent to Reno).  The child's condition is not known at this point and the shooter has been arrested.  A neighboring elementary school has been put on lock-down and the middle school has been evacuated to there.

More details as they come out.

Update 8:12: The victim is a boy, condition still unknown.  Police describe the shooter as "neutralized".

Update 8:53: According to the Sparks city manager the victim has been transported to a local hospital but the shooter is dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police have scheduled a press conference for 9:00 am.

Update 9:07: Spokeswoman for Renown Regional Hospital says they have received two male minors, both are in critical condition.  So I guess the report of the shooter being dead was premature.

Update 10:00: According to a Reno Gazette-Journal interview with a student witness one of the victims is a teacher who was shot in the back while trying to warn the school.

Update 11:11: Sparks Police confirm one of the dead is a teacher and the other is the shooter.  They still have not said whether the shooter was a student or someone from outside the school.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
