So, I just got back from the Houston Area Kossacks' twelfth meet-up. It was a great time, as usual, and it was nice to get away from my comps reading (i.e., Breaking Bad marathon) to hang out with some awesome folks. This time around, we met at Cafe Mezza, a really fantastic American-Mediterranean fusion restaurant. The food lives up to the reputation, and the waitstaff did a really good job serving us. This may be the quickest I've ever put up a meet-up photo diary (I literally just) walked in the door and opened my MacBook), but I don't really have any other ideas for KTK tonight, so why the hell not.
Follow me over the spicy curry chicken pasta for some food and Kossack pr0n. And that's not just a clever name for the fold...literally, follow me over the spicy curry chicken pasta...VinaMist seemed like she really enjoyed it.
First, some food pr0n to whet your appetite. Personally, I wrestled over what to order for hours. I looked at the menu at home and thought it over, and I couldn't decide. Then, when I looked at the menu at the restaurant, I still couldn't decide. Ultimately, I decided that I didn't want simply pasta, nor did I simply want a meat from the grill. So I settled on the lemon butter chicken pasta, which came as a deliciously breaded chicken breast topped with lemon butter (yes, it was as good as it sounds) and spicy chipotle fettuccini, plus grilled vegetables.
nomandates had the chicken parmigiana, which looked equally delicious.
Libby Shaw went for the eggplant parmigiana.
Here are some mystery plates that I'm not going to try to identify, but they look excellent...
And now, time for the people. We'll start at my end of the table with doraphasia.
And Libby Shaw.
And Mary and Alan (they don't post diaries at Daily Kos, but they hope to eventually start).
And one of our newest Houston Area Kossacks, TDDVandy.
And cosette, posing with Alan and TDDVandy.
Finally, a group photo. From left to right: Alan, Mary, doraphasia, Libby Shaw, cosette, TDDVandy, and your humble diarist, who couldn't bother to get into anything better than basketball shorts and a Super Mario Bros. T-shirt.
Also present, but not pictured, was nomandates (and her legendary hair), VinaMist, and Mr. cosette.
All in all, a good time was had by all. And Libby Shaw brought "I Stand with Wendy* yard signs! I'm going to put it on my balcony, but I set it up in the living room to see what Zoe would do.
I'm Zoe, and I approve this message.
Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with kossacks who are caring and supportive of one another. So bring your stories, jokes, photos, funny pics, music, and interesting videos, as well as links—including quotations—to diaries, news stories, and books that you think this community would appreciate.
Finally, readers may notice that most who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but newcomers should not feel excluded. We welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
