as well as a New Trail.

Is this a new innovation in Journalism?

As most people here already know, our very own Kossack, Brit, has been giving us a brilliant perspective on the Rupert Murdoch scandal known in these parts as "Murdochgate".

Although his pieces are now written up at The Daily Beast he still drops in on our Murdoch diaries to give us delicious little snippets and insights.

Over the Kos bellybutton to find out what he's been up to this week...................

Brit has been live tweeting the beginning of the trial of Rebekka Brooks, Andy Coulson and six others which started on Monday.

This became so rivetting and popular that when he regretfully tweeted that he wasn't sure if he could continue there were wails of despair from far and wide. Not just from regular folks like me but from other journalists.

What happened next was totally brilliant.

Brit was persuaded to put up a link for funds with the aim of getting £4,000 so that he could continue until Christmas. I was so excited I even chipped in with £20.

Within 24 hours the total had gone over the £4,000, at day 2 it stands at £5,575!

This means Brit will be able to carry on, maybe until Easter when the trial is expected to wind up.

This is a link to a big fan of Brit who has written up the whole thing, she's done a great job It's all in sequence with a lot of the tweets embedded, so really easy to follow.

Tweeps crowdsource independent journalist for #Hackingtrial

Peter Jukes Crowdsourcing story in Tweets - "The power of the crowd, the power of community, the power of one " Gabrielle Laine-Peters

It started with this - A round-up of Tweets from the opening statement from the Prosecution.

Remember to check her profile if you read the story, very interesting gal.

Brit even made the BBC

A blogger who turned to crowdfunding website Indiegogo to raise money to tweet from the UK's phone-hacking trial has hit his target.

Peter Jukes has raised more than £4,000 to pay "his living expenses" for the trial's duration.

YAY Brit!

4:58 PM PT: Thanks for the tips and recs folks.

I'll take a bow in Brit's honour, I don't think he'd mind.

Thu Nov 07, 2013 at 3:45 AM PT: There's now an article about Brit in The Wall Street Journal, unfortunately it's behind a paywall..

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
