That ol' conservative movement -- so maligned when it comes to their reach out to the Hispanic community for votes. First there's Jason Richwine, Supergenius, claiming (or something close to it) that Hispanics are genetically inferior intelligence-wise to whites. Now here come those fun-loving and oh-so-lovable themselves conservative undergraduates at the University of Texas, yes the same ones who brought the world the affirmative action bake sale, with their latest good-natured prank:
Catch an Illegal Immigrant Day
From the Houston Chronicle (linked above):
AUSTIN — A conservative student group at the University of Texas is organizing a controversial event this week in which students will be rewarded with $25 gift cards to “catch” volunteers posing as illegal immigrants.
The UT chapter of the Young Conservatives of Texas ... said it will host an event called “Catch an Illegal Immigrant.” It’s scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. on Wednesday in the school’s West Mall.
The basic premise: Up to five YCT volunteers will spread out wearing name tags that read “illegal immigrant.” Any UT student can approach them, flash a student ID, proclaim the words “Border Patrol” and take them back to the YCT table to cash in on the Visa gift card.
Yep, the conservative Hispanic outreach program is in full bloom! Get ready, conservatives, for a cascade of ... uh ...
something to fall upon your heads.
