Received this e-mail from Senator Chris Coons (D. DE) today:
For decades, we've fought for equal access to quality education for our children. The hard truth is that we still haven't achieved our goal, and something has to change.
Women and minorities are being pushed away from the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). We can and must do better because it's not only the right thing to do, it's also key to creating more American jobs and ensuring that our economy remains competitive.
There is legislation before the Senate right now that would help ensure true equality in education for all. That means providing opportunities in STEM education for every single child, no matter their gender or race.
Will you add your name now and join our call for Congress to pass this common sense legislation immediately?

Right now, only one-fifth of physics Ph.D.'s are awarded to women - and only half of these women are American. It's the same story for minorities, many of whom attend secondary schools that don't offer the same opportunities in STEM education. Women and minorities continue to face prejudices at every level of their STEM education and careers. It's unacceptable and there's action we can take now to do something about it.
The STEM Booster Act sets clear goals for increasing the participation of women and minorities in STEM fields by establishing online workshops, internships and mentoring programs that pair STEM professionals with underrepresented students. The bill would also create outreach programs in middle and high schools across the country to ensure that bright minds are exposed to STEM education early on.
If we're going to pass this common sense legislation that will help our children and keep us competitive with other countries around the world, we need to act now.

Thanks for standing with us and supporting bright young minds in Delaware and across the country.
Best–
Chris
