I just dropped off a frozen turkey at work.
The employee Pride organization was organizing the turkey drive; they hope to get 250 turkeys. Fortunately it's 18 degrees outside and they won't have to worry about keeping the frozen turkeys frozen. As an aside, I was deeply disappointed that no one attempted to recruit me into the Gay Lifestyle, as I could have wrapped up the toaster oven as an extra Christmas present for Lady Aardvark.
The turkeys will go to the Denver Rescue Mission. From their website:
The Denver Rescue Mission is changing lives in the name of Christ by meeting people at their physical and spiritual points of need, with the goal of returning them to society as productive, self-sufficient citizens.
I think it is safe to say that the Denver Rescue Mission is run by Christians. Evidently these Christians have no problem with accepting aid for the needy if it comes from gay people.
But I read on these orange pages that the state of Oklahoma
will deny all National Guard troops spousal benefits to avoid complying with the order on same sex couple benefits.
More below the Orange Squiggle of Power.
There do seem to be different views of the interaction between Christians and gays on display, with the added subtext that the state government of Oklahoma is not supposed to be an agency of the local Christian churches of Oklahoma.
The Rescue Mission is humble. They exist to serve; they will accept aid from anyone, because they are focused on what they can do for "the least of these".
Mary Fallin is not humble. She is focused on ensuring that the state uses its power to make gays feel bad about being gay, to the point that she is unwilling to help straight people if it means she must also help gay people.
Should a Christian's focus be on helping those who need help, or on hurting those who don't live up to Christian standards?
Pro tip: If what you believe - religious, irreligious, philosophical, whatever - convinces you that you don't need to change, but that other people should be compelled to change, then you need to change what you believe.
Because it's changing you - into a self-righteous prick. And the world does not need any more of those.
