Utah A.G. John Swallow resigns in deal to avoid criminal charges, source says
SALT LAKE CITY — Embattled Utah Attorney General John Swallow announced Thursday he will resign effective 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, saying ongoing investigations against him have taken a toll on him, his family and his office.
"Now is the time for the madness to stop and for the state to move forward," Swallow said during an afternoon press conference at the state Capitol.
Sources told the Deseret News that Swallow cut a deal with the lieutenant governor's office to resign in order to avoid facing criminal charges.
Thanks to The Alliance for a Better Utah who got the ball rolling to oust shady Swallow dealings
filed a complaint against Swallow in March, alleging 12 violations of state election law. The elections office dismissed nine counts in May but said three called for further investigation.
Bye Bye John Swallow.
