I didn't believe that Senator Harry Reid would do it. I thought that his recent threat to invoke the nuclear option was just another empty threat designed to extract some concessions from Republicans.
In fact, about three months ago I wrote a diary arguing that I did not believe that Harry Reid would invoke the nuclear option in the context of an executive branch nomination. The title of my diary was: Reid's Past Statements on Filibuster Reform Make Me Believe His Current Statement Is An Empty Threat. I included in my diary prior statements by Reid in which he threatened to invoke the nuclear option, but never did. And I concluded my diary with the following statement:
As for filibuster reform, I will believe it when I see it.

Well today I actually saw it.
I was wrong about Harry Reid. He did follow through on his threat to invoke the nuclear option.
And so I would like to say thank you to Senator Reid. Thank you for proving me wrong. And thank you for putting an end to the Republican Party's abuse of the filibuster which allowed them to block well qualified nominees for purely political reasons.
