Sunday!
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
We have split up the publishing duties, but we welcome everyone in IAN to do daily diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
If you would like to fill in, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMom a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FSNMom is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.
If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.
I bought my granddaughter's major Christmas present (from me anyway) yesterday. A Goldie Blox hoodie. My daughter is planning to get her something from Goldie Blox as well, but hasn't decided what yet.
Speaking of Goldie Blox, the Beastie Boys are suing for copyright infringement. This could get interesting.
My firstborn and I have agreed that when her son gets a little older (he's 22 months at the moment), we will get the kids an erector set.
I ran into the woman who makes shrubs (aka drinking vinegars) locally last week. The basil one was VERY tasty. She says she's very busy with her real estate business these days and can't do the OHSU Farmer's Market any more (it's on Tuesdays, May to October). At least now, since I took one of her cards, I now know how to find her.
One of the kids who went to present a poster at the American Heart Association meetings last week slept through the time he was supposed to be at his poster. I fail utterly to see how I can be blamed for this, though the guy in day-to-day charge of the lab made a stab at it. The kid in question theoretically wrote the abstract that was accepted - and if the guy who was complaining to me did as much of the writing as he claimed, the kid's name shouldn't have even been on it.
I have my duck for Christmas already - walked in to the local New Seasons yesterday morning and asked if they had any and a shipment had arrived on Friday. I had to drop it back home before I did the rest of my errands because it wasn't even frozen yet. I had actually stopped by there to get the powdered goat milk to make my hot cocoa mix with, but I decided I'd ask about the duck - I ended up with both items, and the celery and a leek for my cornbread dressing for Thanksgiving.
I went to the Strike Debt/Rolling Jubilee event in town last evening. I signed up for the email list, got a bunch of handouts, put some money in the donations jar (not necessarily in that order) and sat down to listen to what was supposed to be some speakers, some music and - it turned out - a poet.
The first two speakers were informative, but when the earnest young man stood up for another go at his poetry, I left. It was either walk out or spend the next hour struggling with the urge to be very rude to him. The first recitation boiled down to "we won't get the future we want unless we help each other". The sentiment was nice, but he was really torturing his metaphors - and I'm not going to say which ones he abused.
