The quilt shown has natural mineral materials for the boats' sails and the stones on the beach.

The old armory in downtown Rochester NY is nicknamed "The Castle" and rises above the buildings surrounding it.
My sister insisted that I take pics in the ladies room, the stall doors are beautiful, natural aged oak, with intricate medieval fleur de lis' cutouts top and bottom that swing out with both hands and have antique latches inside. The photo doesn't do the room justice, it is a very interesting powder room!
We were at the 44th Rochester Gem, Mineral, Jewelry and Fossil Show themed "Thinking Outside the Box.." sponsored by the Rochester Lapidary Society. There were 20-30 vendors at the show. This pic shows large ammonites in pairs and other beautiful fossils, as well as a picture created from different colored minerals.
The Society sponsors a "People's Choice" competition for woodworkers, beaders and fiber artists. The work must incorporate some natural mineral material to be included. There were several small quilts there, and they were so nice I got permission to photograph them so I could share with the quilters at DKQG.
I am sorry I didn't write the quilters' names down, I thought the tags would be readable in the photographs.
These quilts were all small. The one I chose as my People's Choice was the last one. There is a crazy lace agate cabochon in the center and the quilt replicates it in color and pattern in fiber. The work was very fine and detailed, I thought it was just beautiful.
The stone carver worked as folks watched. The bear carrying a salmon and the Bison were the carvings that were best to photograph.
These are shots of a black and white rock that has calcite and something else in it that makes it naturally fluorescent. Both shots were taken with a black light on the mineral, but for the top one I turned off the flash. The vendor said there is a tunnel you can walk through where all the walls are made of this rock, and really wanted me to show off his very cool samples!
These are pieces of a big amethyst geode.
The lamps are stunning up close; the bases are turned wood but the leaded shade uses slices of translucent mineral material instead of glass.
These are wood and mineral pieces as well.
This is a beaded picture; many of the beads are natural stone. The photo doesn't show how beautiful it is up close; another of my People's Choice selections.
This shows several small wood and mineral objects. The small hand mirror and stand was so interesting, the stone embedded in the frame was pink and quite feminine and the stand appeared to be driftwood. There are two mirrors behind it so the viewer can see both sides of the object.
I enjoyed my day at the old armory, there is so much to see and not much pressure to buy. These folks ROCK!
