I've made some subtle update edits, since some have seen this diary when it originally published.
If you follow the link supplied below, you will find new work by my poet friend, which he's added since this diary was originally published. All his work is well worth reading, IMHO. Next time, I'll return to my series about places I lived growing up. I may include some visited places, too, some of which were also influential in my life. Thanks for reading!
I'd created this diary (in bigjac style)
as "emergency" fill-in,
because
I'd heard
bigjacbigjacbigjac
was having
computer
failure issues.
(He's now returned
via new computer.
I'm very happy about that!)
I'm sharing work of one
of my favorite current poets;
a friend,
also
Martha's Vineyard
Poet Laureate:
Lee H. McCormack.
An apocalyptic vision
taking in
earth's destruction as it
affects all life,
not just the humans' hunger.
When global warming,
other forms of human-caused catastrophe,
take their awful toll.
It also holds a bit
of hope,
in the form of the young.
Future generations,
who might possess
strength of will
and knowledge
to turn the tide
in favor
of survival.
Please feel free to comment
or take action,
as you are so moved.

Kalliope
Means "beautiful voice" from Greek καλλος (kallos) "beauty" and οψ (ops) "voice". In Greek mythology she was a goddess of epic poetry and eloquence, one of the nine Muses.

Small Prayer
Some days I can only drift
in the wake of sorrow
as I lift my eyes
to another ache
in the world
and recognize
the wound as mine
in body to bear.
How can I rationalize
the death of oceans
and atmospheres
as plants
and animals
disappear from here
without consent?
In my waking
there is always fear
children may not survive.
And still, I laugh
and dance
between the tears
and dress the wounds
with prayers that
sons and daughters
will arrive knowing
how to bless
the earth and waters
they need to stay alive
and there will be
no reason
for animals to die
in the garden unattended
as all our broken souls
and wounds be mended.
