I just have to admire the wingnuts propensity to hide behind the nearest available cross when desperately trying to justify their failings.
I use this mini diatribe by Erik "Clutching the Bible" Erickson as a typical case in point:
There will be no accommodation between gay rights activists and those seeking religious freedom to opt out of the gay rights movement. Gay rights activists demand tolerance for their lifestyle, but will not tolerate those who choose to adhere to their religious beliefs.
Erm, one seems to be demanding inclusion the other exclusion, but never let that put a wingnut off.
For Christians defined by their faith, this paradigm of being defined by your sexual preference instead of your faith is deeply troublesome and will see more and more of these stories crop up.
No, no, no. Such utter and complete fail, now if the gay couple had engaged the baker then found out he was christian and then cancelled the order because he was a christian; you have a point. I can imagine the righteous rant of the wingnuts if that were to actually happen.
It was the same old rational often used to justify segregation as Rand Paul so ineptly tried not so long ago.
Maddow:... How about desegregating lunch counters?
Paul: Well what it gets into then is if you decide that restaurants are publicly owned and not privately owned
Rand Paul used the other classical defense, and
blamed the messenger for confusing him.
It's all a bait and switch, you are oppressing me for my bigotry/racism/misogyny because: The Bible! Jesus! First Amendment!
You see when one side is just wanting to discriminate and the other side wants inclusion you cant just turn around and call those wanting inclusion oppressors, it just doesn't work like that.
You cant just discriminate by clutching the nearest available excuse that you imagine might absolve you from being a bigot and then try and blame those you despise for your shortcomings.
It's the same logic that religious radicals use against women, and you wonder why we call you extremists.
So I'll remind you about inclusion from something you supposedly hold dear
Ephesians 4:32
Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
