It's been a couple of weeks, and it's time to give you a little update on the 'war on poaching' and the fight to ban Ivory trading around the world!
I can't tell you how much I appreciated all the feedback and comments on my last diary. I can only wish that you try to keep this in mind and try to spread the word as best you can.
If I had a million dollars I would initiate a North American education project for all school children that focused on wildlife awareness and protection, starting with E for extinction, and followed by E for elephants, and followed by all the beautiful and wonderful creatures that we have been so careless about in today's world. (to say nothing of our sad and shameful historical deeds.) I understand that it is part of the natural order that species succumb to natural selection and thousands of species have become extinct since man has walked the earth, …the operative word here is "natural".
Elephants are losing the war, we can affect this if we act now. The first thing we must do is to stay on top of the story and to know the facts. Then we can spread the word and invoke response and action in others. That is what I hope I can do here. The lack of awareness is crushing in the face of the facts before us.
Yesterday in DC, Dec 16th, at the first meeting of the Advisory Council on Wildlife Trafficking - The people's voice was represented by a fierce, dedicated and disciplined group of warriors who called for an END TO THE IVORY TRADE IN THE USA - an unambiguous and outright BAN!
"The People's Voice calling for a complete end to the ivory trade was delivered today before the federal advisory council on wildlife trafficking. Thanks to all you attended and spoke on this historic day." - Jen Samuel
I am so proud to be associated with these fabulous women, and all the men and women who have this cause foremost in their hearts.
It continues to amaze me how most intelligent and socially conscious people when addressed with the fact that every 15 minutes another Elephant is killed for its tusks..for the vanity of the status of Ivory, and that their extinction is truly just around the corner, respond, "Really, I have trouble believing that could be true!!?"
If you care, and I pray that you do, please just be more aware of what is happening..it is so horrifically close to the extinction of this incredible animal… and only awareness, compassion, and a serious dose of energy to back your concern will save these guys… So please DO it!
I recall being a little girl in grammar school, and learning about what we had done to the Buffalo, and not understanding why the 'grown-ups' didn't stop this horrid crime… don't let history repeat itself. So, grown-ups, do your part. I will raise $1,000,000 and teach the children.
So eager to hear what the feedback is on today's meeting, and I promise…more to come
