The Backyard Science group regularly features the Daily Bucket. For many, everywhere before us is part of our backyard; the forests; the shorelines; the mountains; the sky; all of it. Please provide a comment about your own natural area, whether your backyard or your favorite spot. Include, as close as you are comfortable, your general location.
At 8:40 am, Pacific time, Billy the heron dropped into my backyard for some breakfast. At 10:18 am, Billy's still here, having dispatched 12 goldfish, even two at a time in a couple of tries.
The ponds have been frozen off and on for the last couple of weeks, so the fishing's been poor. Billy may be real hungry. Billy isn't spooked by the noises and movement from inside our house, as we angle for pictures, edge up to the windows, and inch up the blinds to peek out.
Ms. 6 has great pics with her new camera, if only we can figure out how to download them. In the meantime, I've post my effort, with Billy centered in the window frame. It's done in lightbox, so if you're clever, you can enhance it.
"Green Diary Rescue" is Back!
After a hiatus of over 1 1/2 years, Meteor Blades has revived his excellent series. As MB explained, this weekly diary is a "round-up with excerpts and links... of the hard work so many Kossacks put into bringing matters of environmental concern to the community... I'll be starting out with some commentary of my own on an issue related to the environment, a word I take in its broadest meaning."
"Green Diary Rescue" will be posted every Saturday at 1:00 pm Pacific Time on the Daily Kos front page. Be sure to recommend and comment in the diary.
11:05 AM PT: Now there's a non-Doug squirrel at the bird feeder. But I can't chase away that !~!$% without scaring Billy away. What to do? Another of life's tough choices.
