Hopefully we'll see much more news like these heartening stories in the near future:
Hospital run entirely on solar power opens in Haiti
(There are a few articles on this online)
India turns on large new solar power plant
For the next ten days, I'll be away from home. I'll try to publish more than one diary entry, but I might not get to it. But, I'll definitely be publishing right away when I return home.
Water-saving tips:
Remember, if you save water, you reduce the carbon footprint, because much of America’s electricity is used to process and pump water. So don’t just save water yourself, but get other people to as well.
(1) If the hot water in your home runs out quick, keep a bowl or basin near a faucet to catch the water that would otherwise go down the drain while you are waiting for the water to get to the right temperature. Set it aside and then use this water to water plants, for cleaning, or later on for drinking, cooking, or making hot drinks.
How much water could you save if you were really careful about it? This tip, if you think about it, starts to seem like it could supply all the water for your weekly mop bucket, powdered soft drinks, and water for boiling, especially if you are very fond of using hot or warm water from your tap, like say in winter when you want to bathe in warm water, or don’t want your hands to get raw in a lot of cold water.
(2) An adjustable flapper in your toilet tank can save up to three gallons per flush
(3) Instead of putting a brick or a bottle with rocks in it in your toilet tank, reduce your water per flush by using a water-filled tank bag, found in a plumbing section of a hardware store or online.
