Popular South Jersey state senator Jeff Van Drew appears to be seriously considering a 2014 challenge to incumbent Frank LoBiondo's long-established hold on this congressional seat. LoBiondo seems like a typical northeast GOP congress critter - pretty conservative, but not a true tea partier.
This is hopeful news. Van Drew seems to have what it takes for a decent shot to win. He has a history of garnering votes across party lines; moreover, he's a hard worker, and his reputation is impeccable as far as I'm aware. If there is a downside, it's that, if sent to Washington, he will likely vote more conservatively than your average Dem. But the politics of Cape May County, which is a significant chunk of this district's constituency, are so conservative that a blue dog Dem is about the best we can wish for at this point in time.
