Having been under the weather for the last week, I missed much of the Kibitzers bringing in the New Year. Below the fold you will not find a sentimental video or thoughtful quotes, just a few sincere and heartfelt thoughts.
Daily Kos and its community have played a positive role in my life since joining almost three years ago. The knowledge and insight I’ve gained has given me the courage to become more active in politics. I have joined offline activism groups such as the Dream Menders (a local group based on Van Jones’ “Rebuild the American Dream) and 350 Silicon Valley.
When I ran for delegate of my state’s Democratic Party, even though I never had run for any political position in my life, I knew that my kossack friends not only supported me, but also would be there to offer advice to help me be effective. Although I didn’t win, I’ll be back, attempting to push my Democratic party in a more progressive direction. In my “taking it to the streets” activism, no longer would it be just me and my little one amongst the mostly unknown to us protesters; we had kossacks supporting us online and also meeting us in the streets.
A few weeks ago at a San Francisco Kossack event I sat with Meteor Blades. Maybe he was excited because he had just survived a heart attack, which we all were, but also because of the upcoming elections, and because his friend and writing partner, navajo, was just made the director of a new area of Daily Kos Communities. He wouldn't give me any clues but he was very excited about the upcoming upgrades kos has planned for Daily Kos.
I share his and hopefully your excitement for the November elections. So I raise my Margarita in a New Year’s toast to the communities of Daily Kos as we push and support each other in our continued activism, both online and offline, to make the world a better place.
And always ...sending hugs and wishing peace to all my friends.
Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with kossacks who are caring and supportive of one another. So bring your stories, jokes, photos, funny pics, music, and interesting videos, as well as links—including quotations—to diaries, news stories, and books that you think this community would appreciate.
Readers may notice that most who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but newcomers should not feel excluded. We welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
