So after everything is all said and done, I guess I'm going to need to skate by with minimum health services for another year. I live in Oregon, and it seems my application has found its way to some limbo status. Due to errors with the state run exchange, applications couldn't be submitted online, which forced me to print and send off a paper copy. Apparently this paper copy was not processed, and the deadline has passed. The guy, who runs the whole thing, just resigned. So it goes.
I am by no means on death's door, but it would have been nice to have coverage again. I have type 2 diabetes, which I keep pretty well under control. Still I try my best to delay my doctors requests for tests and visits by a few months. I also let gaps in my medication occur, because the doctor wants to see me before refilling. So it goes.
At the end of this all, I can't say I'm any worse off than before the ACA was passed, and I'm sure in a few years they'll set things right. As far as blame goes, I guess I blame the US Senate, who led the process in drafting a sketchy piece of legislation.
For the life of me, I still can't wrap my head around how we ended up pushing a Republican health bill through a Democratic super majority in congress. After all, we did this with next to zero Republican support. So why didn't this look more like a compassionate health care plan?
The implementation really wasn't a huge surprise to me either. There was far too much back room dealing involved in passing this legislation to expect a legitimate bidding process for the creation of the exchanges. We ended up with KBR style contractors bidding out legitimate software companies, and like most companies, who specialize foremost in winning government contracts, they took the money and ran. So it goes.
But I hear rumblings from many that the Democrats should run on health care in 2014. Really? Are you really suggesting we tell the American people that this is what they should think of, when they think of our party?
This thing was not a product of the left, and I have no idea why we would want to be tagged with it.
