There's been some nasty weather in the past week, Kibitzers! I'm glad for those of you who are in warmer places, but from where I'm sitting, it has been most unsatisfactory, and I'm not even in the upper Midwest.
Sure, there was some crappy weather in December, and it even snowed out a couple of events, but I didn't complain much because I'm so overbooked with holiday stuff in December, I was sort of glad to have a few rehearsals canceled. But now it's January and things get real. Week-long stretches of bad weather are just not welcome.
As I write this on Saturday (because my week is so packed that I can't leave it until any later), we've still got icy roads from a snowstorm and bitter-cold temperatures. Tomorrow it'll warm up, but not in time to avoid freezing rain for most of the day. I don't like that, because my Wiccan circle had to reschedule Yule for tomorrow and it's a long drive.
By Tuesday, the deep-freeze comes back. At least there aren't any more snowstorms on the books as of now, but that can change. So to put you all in the winter mood, join me below the mysterious track in the snow, for a few pictures and some remarks about snowflakes!
My friend Wendy took this picture last year, looking down the Delaware and Raritan Canal:
Finally, Cal Tech has an awesome site about snowflakes. Is it really true that no two are alike? Have a look down the menu on the side, too -- there are galleries of snowflake photos, a guide to the types, and discussions of snowflake physics, among other features. Look at these little gems:
Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of their evening around a virtual kitchen table with kossacks who are caring and supportive of one another. So bring your stories, jokes, photos, funny pics, music, interesting videos, and so forth. We would also appreciate links—including quotations—to diaries, news stories, and books that you think this community would appreciate.
Please note that pie fights will be unwelcome in this community, just as in most other series at DKos.
Finally, readers may notice that most who are posting diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but that definitely does not mean that newcomers will be excluded or unwelcome. We're happy to welcome guests to our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
KTK posts nightly at 5:00 Pacific, 6:00 Mountain, 7:00 Central, 8:00 Eastern.
