NFIB called my wife today, with a dire message that all members past and present needed to join together and fight this new tax that Obamacare will bring. They even offered us a discount on the membership! How could we say no?
A bit of background for those who may be wondering "NFIB? What's that?" NFIB is the National Federation of Independent Businesses. It is supposed to let the little guys join together to lobby so they can attempt to be on the same footing as other, larger companies while lobbying.
"That's great, so they can try to get things passed through congress like addressing the sales tax loop hole that amazon and other large companies use to cut their prices to the thinnest of margins, making most mom and pop shops a showroom for products that will be bought for much cheaper online."
They totally could! Except they don't. Nope, they most recently were the plaintiff in the landmark case heard on Obamacare in the Supreme Court Ruling.
That's one of the reasons why we no longer belong to NFIB. Because instead of focusing on issues that directly affect our bottom line, they do the bidding of people like Karl Rove, especially after he dumped $3.7 million in the form of a grant to NFIB. That's approximately 2900 times more than the dues they wanted us to pay as a special rate.
Plus we're actually better off than we were before the ACA. I've written about it before. So when my wife called them back, we told her so. We told her about how the NFIB isn't focusing on what we need, but is trading its independence for lots of money, and selling us out to become just another mouthpiece for the corporations trying to buy their way to a shiny new government. They can do that without my help, thanks.
