It's driving me crazy, as an immigration lawyer.  Report after report says he has a green card.  See, for example: http://celebrity.yahoo.com/... .

The petition to the White House is now supposedly to the point where Obama has promised personal presidential attention.

But it's incoherent!

It calls for Bieber's green card to be revoked.

But Bieber doesn't have a green card!  In other words, he does not have U.S. lawful permanent resident status, and thus is not an "immigrant."

He is what the law calls a "nonimmigrant," with temporary O-1 visa status, which is a rare status granted to persons with "extraordinary ability" in the arts and sciences.

If he "retires," as he recently said he would, he would immediately lose the employment required for O-1 status, would go out of status (in other words, be an "illegal alien"), and could be deported JUST FOR THAT.

As I discussed in my last diary (http://www.dailykos.com/...) and its comments, he could also potentially be deported for committing a "crime of moral turpitude" or an "aggravated felony."

It drives me CRAZY to see an asshole like Bieber get away with so much criminal misconduct while so many thousands of decent poor people are incredibly abused and violated by the broken U.S. immigration system.

I hope he gets broken down and deported by some courageous U.S. officials who will stand for truth and not be scared by the onslaught of money.

But it's probably not going to happen.

If I were writing a book about the zeitgeist in the USA in these days, this would deserve an entire chapter.  To me, it's important, at least as a matter of symbols, which is mainly what we have in politics.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
