Tuesday!
Rosa Parks
was born on this day,
in 1913.
Facebook
was launched on this day,
in 2004.
More below the fold.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
We have split up the publishing duties, but we welcome everyone in IAN to do daily diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
Ok, we have a current diary schedule. If you would like to fill in, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMom a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FSNMom is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.
Monday: BadKitties
Tuesday: bigjacbigjacbigjac
Wednesday: Caedy
Thursday: weck
Friday: FloridaSNMOM
Saturday:broths
Sunday: loggersbrat
If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.
Well,
here we are again,
another bigjac Tuesday.
A long time ago,
at a kind of garage sale
held at a small town public library,
where they sell library books
that are outdated,
I bought a nice book,
called:
Chase's Annual Events.
If you think about it,
there are only 365 days per year,
and there are way more than
365
organizations that have established
a special day,
or week,
or month,
in which to send the world a press release,
hoping the mainstream media,
or someone,
will announce it to the wider world.
Plus,
birthdays of famous folks
who are dead and gone,
birthdays of famous folks
who are alive and well.
If you think about it,
any commercially produced calendar
should have at least one or two
of such items
printed right there on each day's square,
so you could look at your calendar
on your wall,
and see them right there.
But they don't.
The calendar on my wall,
for example,
for February,
has:
Groundhog Day,
Valentine's Day,
and
President's Day.
The other squares have nothing,
nothing but the day number,
(today is 4),
and the day of the year,
and how many days left.
(today is day 35, with 330 days left.)
That's it.
So,
until further notice,
I plan to give you,
each Tuesday,
at least a few items
from the Chase's Calendar of Events
for that day,
plus,
maybe a few items that might catch my eye
from earlier in the week,
if I catch them
before they've gone past.
The site has a limited window of days I can look at,
apparently.
Here are a few selections:
February 2nd was Super Bowl Sunday,
which is a much bigger deal
to more Americans
than Groundhog day,
but the game day is not on the calendars.
January 31st
was
Chinese New Year: The Year of the Horse.
February is
National Black History Month.
February is also:
American Heart Month
Bake for Family Fun Month
Beat the Heat Month (?)
Bird-Feeding Month, Natl
Library Lovers' Month
Return Shopping Carts to the Supermarket Month
Spay/Neuter Awareness Month
Spunky Old Broads Month
Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month, Natl
Time Management Month, Natl
Wise Health Care Consumer Month
That is only about half of the February list
from the website.
February 1st is the date,
in 2003,
when the space shuttle Columbia disintegrated,
killing its seven-member crew.
February 3rd is the date,
in 1959,
when Buddy Holly,
J.P. Richardson,
and Richie Valens
died in a plane crash.
Here is the link to
Chase's Calendar of Events.
Thanks for reading.
Hope you're doing well,
but even if not,
tell us about it.
We're here to listen.
