Received this e-mail today from Senator Chris Coons (D. DE) regarding the Military Justice Improvement Act:
Can you believe that one out of every five military women has been a victim of unwanted sexual contact? It’s deplorable.
In one year alone, an estimated 26,000 cases of rape, sexual assault and unwanted sexual contact took place within the military. Yet, only a tiny fraction of these cases resulted in a trial.
Putting on the uniform to protect our great country comes with a price, but that price should not include sexual assault.
Congress failed to intervene last year, but we’ve kept pushing and may be on the cusp of a second chance. We must get this right for victims now. The Military Justice Improvement Act will create an independent, impartial team of military prosecutors to handle all cases of sexual assault – something sorely needed.

The men and women of the armed forces deserve our respect and gratitude. More than that, they deserve to know that we have their backs, as they so courageously have ours.
Sexual assault is a heinous crime and its victims deserve real justice. It’s time for Congress to step up and protect the victims of sexual assault by passing the Military Justice Improvement Act.
Add your voice to the fight. Click here to demand that Congress immediately pass the Military Justice Improvement Act and give military sexual assault victims the justice they deserve.
