I got some rather disturbing e-mail today. It bills itself as "Open letter to the 22 veterans and enlisted men who are planning to commit suicide today. Read this instead!" and it asks those people to commit political assassinations instead.

The thrust of the message is that 911 was an inside job, and the politicians are responsible for sending you to war and hence your PTSD and depression and suicidal thoughts. Then it goes on:

If you are ready to take your own life, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain by keeping your oath to God and gaining His respect for doing so. Do not take your own life, but instead do what you KNOW to be right - taking the lives of the domestic enemies/traitors who lied and did this to you.
The disturbing part is not so much the conspiracy theory fueled call for assassination, but at the end of the message is a long list of politicians, ranging from John McCain to Barney Frank, along with their addresses, in many cases multiple addresses, which I assume are their state offices.

I haven't read the entire list, but just skimming through, it seems to have names from all fifty states, and a few miscellaneous at the end, and each state has from two to twenty or more entries.

Who should be apprised of this e-mail? Is there an FBI or Secret Service office that looks into things like this I could forward it to?

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

That's why I'm here. Google reveals the DC Capital police are "investigating", but as usual I doubt anything will be done. You can't tell me this is legal.

I began receiving these emails several years ago. The usually had some pro-gun "they're taking our guns away!" theme. The only thing truly threatening about them was the list of senators and reps names and addresses at the end. When I got the first one, there was some brief write-ups on a few progressive blogs as I recall, so others got them as well.

Again the list was the most threatening part of the earlier ones. But this one is different, and much more serious.

The story on the capital police story is here:

    http://www.thedenverchannel.com/...

It says the FBI has been notified. But it says they've been investigating for several weeks, and since I just got the msg tonight, you can guess what will probably be done: nothing.

If you are suffering PTSD and feeling suicidal, because of what you did whilst serving in foreign fields, and feel you cannot live with yourself and what you did any longer, then you are ready to redeem yourself with God.

Committing suicide is not The Way and is against God's Law, for which you will find no rest, only punishment from God.

The only way to redeem yourself is to start to keep the First and Great Commandment - "And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength and serve Him ONLY: this is the first Commandment" - the one you should never have broken, and which, if you had kept it, would have prevented you from being in the tragic position you are in today.

911 was an inside job. You went to war for a lie, told to you by the people you swore to defend your country against - domestic enemies/traitors. The ones who did this to you are not 5 thousand miles away and you know their names and where to find them. (See "Iraq War Veteran Speaks out Against the War" on YouTube.)

You swore your oath to and before God, and you have NEVER kept it. That is why God has turned His back to you, in disgust, that your word, and thus you, are worthless. The ONLY way you can fix that is to keep your oath, by defending your country against its REAL enemies - the DOMESTIC ones whom you KNOW well-enough.

If you are ready to take your own life, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain by keeping your oath to God and gaining His respect for doing so. Do not take your own life, but instead do what you KNOW to be right - taking the lives of the domestic enemies/traitors who lied and did this to you.

Do not seek psychiatric help from people who will also deceive you and fill you full of pharmaceutical poisons and have you banned from owning firearms, contravening your 2nd Amendment Right.

THEY - The Hierarchy Enslaving YOU are terrified of you fulfilling your oath against them by (visibly - God is invisible) "leaderless resistance". That is why THEY want you drugged and disarmed, or DEAD.

Don't fall into their traps again, like you did before, by believing their lies and losing your rights.

The only way you will find peace of mind is not through drugs, but by making amends for what you were deceived and brainwashed into doing, that you now know was wrong and you cannot live with.

If you do that, God will help you and give you peace of mind, and that is what you really cannot live without - isn't it? A clear conscience. Clear your conscience. Keep your oath and regain your honor and do your country and the world a great service by executing its domestic enemies that are wreaking havoc on the whole world, as you SWORE to do.

You KNOW I am right, so get on with it.

I happened to look this up yesterday. Both forms are correct usage, although the ones with "st" are either outdated or predominantly British (or at leat non-American) usage. To our U.S. ears, it does sound a bit stilted, or stuffy, or old-fashioned.  Might be a clue to origin, or just someone being hoity-toity.  Hard to say.

        •  To me the whole thing reads (0+ / 0-)

like the author's only writing model is the King James version of the Bible. It's not only individual words, but phrases like "serving in foreign fields" and "for which you will find no rest" that are also oddly archaic ways of expressing things.

As to where, my guess would be some fundamentalist backwater.

The King James Bible is written in Elizabethan English, the formal court language of the time, during the 20+ years leading up to 1611 when the Authorized Version (King James) of the English Bible was published, which might help widen the inquiry.

This type of pompous and archaic language is common among right/teaparty types. Very 19th- and 18th-century type  language, or what they imagine that language sounds like.

I've spent a lot of time trolling comment threads at birther sites (great hobby btw), and my "ear" doesn't pick up any difference from this email and what I "hear" there.
