Marianne Williamson is not the "official" candidate for the re-districted 33rd district vacated by Henry Waxman after 40 years. That description better fits one of the other candidates; Wendy Greuel, Ted Lieu or Barbara Mulvaney. I support her candidacy because I believe she represents a new kind of political leader and I agree with her politics and priorities.
The last campaign I supported was Paul Butterfield when he ran for California Senate and lost against Rod Wright the "official" candidate of the Democratic party who not only helped sabotage the single payer movement in California but may end up going to jail. So much for the Democratic status quo in California.
Marianne is running as an independent but she will tell you she is a life long Democrat. Can you imagine someone who wants to get rid of money in politics, supports labor unions, supports single payer, defends women's rights, wants to reverse the trend towards inequality, speaks at Occupy Los Angeles, supports the separation of church and state, etc. being a Republican? That would be ludicrous.
Now if you want someone who will toe the Dem party line, she is not your candidate. But if you want to send to DC someone who will do what is right then Marianne is the one.
More below the orange croissant.
The primaries are on June 3rd so the next 4 months months things are going to get hot on the LA west side and from Malibu to the South Bay.
The 33rd is an affluent district but very liberal. I don't live there now but I did for 14 years. I now live next door in the San Fernando Valley.
I met Marianne almost 2 years ago when I went to a salon session because my girlfriend wanted to hear her. I knew about her books on spirituality and self improvement but what she spoke about was politics. I was awed by the fact she seemed to be on the same page about everything and she impressed me as a political leader. I diaried about her issue of getting more women involved in politics which I think is huge. So when she decided to run herself I decide to support her.
I am organizing an event for anyone who wants to hear her speak at the next Drinking Liberally in the west side. More about this in upcoming diaries.
