I have mixed feelings about this. McDonald's is offering a romantic dining experience at its locations in Tampa, complete with candles, flowers and waiters.

The thing is, I think it's a nice gesture. There are doubtless many people around who will take advantage of this. It allows lower income people to feel special for a while.
Except I guess that's what bothers me. What we have is a big corporation like McDonald's marketing its unhealthy food creatively to the poor - including people in the same income range as its own workers. As a society, that is the priority. Rather than raise wages, just market cheaper products. If someone complains about an income gap, conservatives will say, "These folks aren't really poor. Look, they have an apartment, big screen TV, DVD player, microwave, etc. Blah, blah, blah."
All the energy and money of the rich is devoted to piling on more for themselves. For what? They can't spend it all. They just hold on to it. But give a poor person a raise, and it goes right back into the economy. Which of these two scenarios will create more jobs?
