The IDEA that you would try to score political points just by preventing a debt ceiling increase and attacking the Democrats when you don't control both chambers of Congress and the government shutdown already has put harm to the economy, is absolutely reprehensible! How do you communicate with your constituents about this?
Look, Lou, you HAVE to understand what these Democrats are doing! They were the ones who started last October's government shutdown! All this talk about Obamacare is setting the debate and we can't STAND Obamacare! Like Michelle Bachmann's said, it's bad medicine! It also doesn't bode well for my campaign contributions!
Ever imagine you'd see Lou Dobbs of all people on Fox News start to do a six-minute brawl with Rep. Louie Gohmert of all people on the debt ceiling debate and the government shutdown?
Well, that's exactly what has happened on Lou Dobbs Tonight on Fox Business and Dobbs, who can be a bit of a rogue on occasion, isn't relenting when he calls out someone like Congressman Gohmert on nonsense. This isn't to say we should love Dobbs all of a sudden (after all, he left CNN due to infighting) but Dobbs is certainly not nutty like Gohmert is.
Anyhow, behold the debate below the fold:

“What is your thinking, what is your motivation?” Dobbs said, starting the interview with a calm tone.
But when Gohmert launched into an attack on House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Dobbs quickly demanded an answer.
“How in the world do you expect the Republican Party to not find itself in the same strategic blind and bind that it was in last year when you guys shut down the federal government?” the host wanted to know. “There comes a time where there just has to be some pragmatism. Go out an win an election, get 400 members, get 100 senators, get a presidency.”
“I don’t expect us not to be in the same bind, and that’s why I was so against what we did here,” Gohmert opined. “If there’s going to be debt ceiling increase, we have got to put some things in there that fundamentally make our system better where we don’t have to keep doing this.”
Furthermore:

At that point, Gohmert pivoted to hype an effort to audit the Federal Reserve, something that has been an obsession for many tea party supporters.
“I repeat, you are not in control of the federal government,” Dobbs insisted. “I don’t think the American people, with all due respect, can draw the same causal relationship that you do from a government shutdown to the benefit of working men and women, and the middle class of this country. You failed to make such a connection in 1996, you failed to do so last fall!”
The one thing to point out is that Louie Gohmert's been Congressman since 2005 so Lou Dobbs can't say Gohmert himself tried the government shutdown technique before and failed.
What can be said is that Dobbs at this point is that he's attacking Gohmert and others' motivations for playing politics with the government shutdown in that based on history in the 1990's, when the government shutdown happened, it not only was completely irrational and stupid, the GOP took a big hit politically as well.
Meanwhile, Louie Gohmert has a Democratic challenger in Texas 1st Congressional District, Shirley McKellar, who is an Iraq War Veteran serving the war Gohmert rubber stamped in Congress for President Bush. If you desire to support and get involved in her campaign, links below:
