we were informed Sunday, that our local Paulist priests will be replaced, and possibly the church will be totally redirected away from being a parish, and to be only of service to students. (We're a campus ministry at Cal, and has been run by Paulists since 1908.)
Needless to say this hasn't gone over well with the local parish, and tonight we had a meeting where we heard we're the 5th campus to have this done to in the last 6 months.
1, or 2 would be the kind of tone deaf operations one would expect from an operation this size, but 5?!?
for years, there's been talk of smaller but purer. Seems like the purge is starting...

(ok, that verbiage at the end might have been influenced by the tone of the meeting)
expanded some below
first of all, I'm not Catholic, but rather married to one
so, I'm not in the loop.
Sunday at mass, we were told the recently appointed Bishop was met by 2 members of the national Paulist organization as well as our local Priest. Where the priest was asked to leave the meeting, and the paulists were told that the Newman center in Berkeley but be returned to local, parish priests. Additionally the appearance of the church does not match that of Catholic churches and the parish will spend local money to improve on that.
The paulists asked if replacing the local priests with new priests would allow it to continue as a Paulist church and told a maybe, we'll see who you appoint. That meeting was in November.
we did some research before the meeting last night and found that a similar upheaval is going on in albuquerque
At the meeting, we were told that it wasn't just those 2, but 3 more.
I didn't hear where those three were (remember, I was very much at the periphery of the discussions.) But it appears that this could well be a national trend, rather then multiple local issues, so I posted something, to see if any more pop up.
