It's okay, Sen. Heller. You can admit it: it's your party holding up immigration reform.
From the "no shit, sherlock" school of
headlines:
Nevada's Dean Heller predicts immigration reform will pass U.S. House if it gets a floor vote
Pigs could fly, if they had wings. Soda would be healthy, if it wasn't sugar water. Same-sex marriage would be legal in Alabama, if the state's conservative majority weren't bigots. You get the idea.
The issue isn't that the Senate bill would pass the House if it had an up-or-down vote, it's that House conservatives have convinced Speaker John Boehner to block it. So when Heller speaks at an immigration forum and says stuff like this following quote, he's just full of shit:
“And I will make this bold prediction,” Heller continued. “That when and if this bill gets to the House floor, I do believe it will pass and every member of our House delegation will vote for it.”
There's only one way to make this happen, and it's a discharge petition. So are Nevada House Republicans Mark Amodei and Joseph Heck willing to sign it and force a House vote? Heller is confident and feeling quote bold about the whole thing! But ask those guys? Amodei's guy:
“He wants everyone to know that as soon as a bill comes to the floor he is willing, obviously, to review what is in the bill.”
WOW, a commitment to "review" a bill? And don't even think about Joe Heck.
Republicans have blocked immigration reform. End of story. And that includes the Nevada GOP House delegation. Any attempt to paper that over with optimistic predictions and false expressions of confidence are pure bullshit.
But they can always prove me wrong by actually signing the discharge petition.
Ask your congressperson to sign a discharge petition. It'll only take a minute of your time.
