The Moral Monday movement, started in North Carolina, which has spread to South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, and even New York, is now in Arizona.
The call has gone out for a mass rally, a Moral March, to be held Saturday, March 29th, 2014, at the State Capitol, according to information posted to the coalition facebook page.
Grant Miller
This is a march for ALL communities passionate about social justice, reconciliation, & bold leadership in Arizona; all who embrace these values are welcome: atheists, religious, LGBTQ, straight, Latino, African American, Caucasian, disabled, immigrant, wealthy, poor, men, women, teachers, business owners, elected officials, doctors, lawyers, activists, labor unions, entrepreneurs, city employees, young, old...all are welcome!
While last year's march focused specifically on marriage equality in our state, we believe it is time to come together--all of our communities--and stand up against marginalization & oppression at the hands of our out-of-touch state government.
This could be a defining moment in the history of our state. Join us.
We already know that the AZ Teapublicans have gone after a broad spectrum of groups in the state.
Protests against Arizona's legislation which is anti-LBGT are already taking place with calls for more boycotts.
Grant Miller, Editor-at-Large for the Blue Street Journal also posted a warning about upcoming legislation, which certainly points for the need for a broad coalition to fight back.
... I'd like to make you aware of the following bills currently winding their way through the legislature:
--A bill banning the Common Core Standards from AZ schools (SB 1310)
--A bill revisiting and expanding SB 1070 levels of scrutiny for the immigrant community (HB 2192)
--A bill that threatens women's access to choice (HB 2284)
Friends! These are just three bills. We are under widespread assault from all angles: the LGBTQ community, the immigrant community, women, teachers--the list goes on and on. Let today's rally show our solidarity and let this March be a call to action, a declaration that we love our state and will not stand to have it legislated into the dustbin of unjust history. #freedomcrusade
Was reading a call for a Moral Monday movement recently, at BlogforArizona.com
(Update) Arizona needs a 'Moral Mondays' movement
The "meth lab of democracy," the far-right Tea-Publican controlled Arizona legislature, feels free to engage in their batshit crazy legislation because: (1) the Arizona political media does not shine a bright light on the crazy shit they are doing and call them out for it, and (2) there is no organized public opposition to publicly shame them for doing it.
The citizens of Arizona have been beaten down for so long by the far-right that many citizens are apathetic and have abandoned hope. Which is exactly what the forces of evil want. As Edmund Burke warned, "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."
So where are the religious and civic leaders of Arizona willing to stand up to the intellectually bankrupt and morally depraved "meth lab of democracy" far-right Tea-Publican controlled Arizona legislature? I have explained why Arizona needs a 'Moral Mondays' movement. This requires the moral suasion of religious leaders and civic leaders. Why do you continue to sit on the sidelines in comfortable complacency and surrender to your apathy? Stand up and fight for justice and what is morally right!
Looks like people in AZ are answering that call.
Forward Together!
