According to Newsday:
The Nets have reached an agreement with Jason Collins, according to reports, paving the way for him to become the first openly gay athlete to play in one of America's top four professional sports leagues.
Collins hasn't played in the NBA since the 2013 season. He came out while he was a free agent and was not signed by an NBA team, even though his skills are still respectable.
Comments from members of the Nets organization are encouraging:
Since the news broke Thursday of the Nets' interest in Collins, the players have made it clear they'd welcome Collins, who averaged 3.2 points and 3.8 rebounds in his 12 seasons, with open arms.
"We would accept it greatly and it shouldn't be a problem, man," Joe Johnson said. "We've got a veteran group and I think everybody is pretty comfortable in their own skin. It's about what he can do to help us out there on that court. That's what it's about."
"I'm sure the distractions will be just that: distractions," Kevin Garnett said. "But I don't think there will be issues. We are all men here. We all understand. We are professionals. We know how to coincide with one another, which is very important when dealing with distractions."
