One of our best chances to flip a House seat from crazy red to moderate blue is coming up March 11th. That is only 2 weeks to win one of our biggest races of the year.

Alex Sink, former CFO of Florida who came within 1% of beating Rick Scott as Florida Governor, is running for Congress in an open race for the FL-13 seat.

I supported Alex Sink when she ran for CFO and kept up with a lot of what she did while she served. From what I could tell she did a great job. But she has a fascinating background I barely knew about. One of her great-grandfathers was Chang Bunker, one of the famous conjoined "Siamese Twins" Chang and Eng Bunker. Her college degree (magna cum laude I might add) was in mathematics. I LOVE electing math/science people to any level of elected office...we desperately need their influence in government. She taught at girls' schools in Sierra Leone and Liberia.

Basically, though she is conservative compared with my beliefs, I think she is great and a very good fit for Florida...and a good person to shift Florida blue.

On March 11th we have the chance to win one of the biggest Congressional battles of 2014. The Koch Brothers are seriously on this one. And the Greedy Oil Party is so desperate to hold this seat they have brought out all their dirty tricks including creating fraudulent websites to try and fake Alex Sink supporters into donating to the Repub party.

We have to win this one and you can help...

Alex Sink FL-13

CRITICAL RACE: A special, March 11 election to replace Republican Bill Young. This is a real toss up and a solid shot for us to flip a lean red seat blue even before election 2014 gets going. Alex Sink is the Dem candidate and she was quite good as Florida's elected CFO. Winning this is critical to an aggressive Democratic strategy. Remember, Repubs are so desperate to win this one that they created a fake campaign site to smear Alex Sink. Sadly the FAKE site comes up in a Google search above the real site! Alex Sink has been endorsed by  International Association of Firefighters Local 747 and the Florida Professional Firefighters, the Pinellas County Classroom Teachers Association, the Sun Coast Police Benevolent Association and the League of Conservation Voters.

Let's not let this prime chance to pickup a seat in Congress slip by. As a special election it may be low voter turnout, which means Koch Bro. and Chamber of Commerce cash will have a big effect. But it is still a toss up we really can win and get the year started right. THIS fight is the start of our momentum. Let's give it a BIG push.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
