Some of you saw my earlier diary, 11 year old starts a charity. In sum, my 11 year old son started his own nonprofit corporation, Kidstruments Fund, Inc. It started when his orchestra teacher's violin broke and he started a fundraiser to help fix it. I'll leave the rest of the story to him:
The Kidstruments Fund will make grants to schools and school districts prior to the start of every school year, to support Orchestra programs in need.
Josh learned, in the process of running the first fundraiser, that there were kids who wanted to be in orchestra, but could not afford the instrument rentals. Sometimes, there were kids who couldn’t afford to rent the instrument they wanted to play. And in some places, there are schools that can’t afford to even run an orchestra program. That’s why he decided to turn his fundraiser into a permanent charity, and The Kidstruments Fund was born.
Well, now he has a new idea. As he described it to me, "it costs less than my allowance,* and it could help so many people." Take a leap below the dancing treble clefs for more.
(*It costs less than his allowance, assuming he takes out the garbage, puts away his own laundry, and does other things to help around the house. Sorry, had to be Dad here.)
Once again, I'll let him tell the story:
Two dollar burgers, two dollar movies, even two dollar apps, are all offered on “Two Dollar Tuesdays.” But here at Kidstruments Fund, we have another idea for Two Dollar Tuesday. Instead of getting something for just a little money every week, why don’t you give just a little money, every week?
Today, modern technology makes giving easier than ever. A quick trip to PayPal, a few clicks, and you help somebody. Maybe you give it to Kidstruments Fund and help a child play an instrumentMaybe you give it to Dayspring Center,* and buy a meal for a homeless child. Everywhere you look there are people in need. And for just two bucks a week, less than an 11-year old gets for an allowance (believe me, I know), you can help.
Imagine what would happen if everybody gave just two bucks a week. I did. And the world was a better place.
Please think about contributing $2 this Tuesday. It would be great if you contributed it to Kidstruments Fund, Inc., and I promise it will go to music for children. Or give it Dayspring Center, or any of the thousands of other great charities. You can also suggest a charity in the comments. Also, don’t forget to tell everybody you know about Two Dollar Tuesday. The more who know, the more who can help.
Donate to Kidstruments Fund, Inc.
Dayspring Center is a local charity that supports families with homeless children. Josh met with them once, and will again. They are very excited about the possibility that their kids might be able to participate in a music program when they couldn't afford an instrument rental. Josh is just as excited to tell people about them and the good work they do.
That's all I've got. Proud dad, hoping you'll run with his idea, tell all your friends and neighbors about Two Dollar Tuesday, and perhaps give just a little money, every week. Give it to Kidstruments, give it to Dayspring, or give it to another worthy cause. But if you have it, please give it. For so many of us, $2 per week would not even be pinprick, for but if we do it, as Josh says, "it could help so many people."
If you have charity suggestions, please pop over to Kidstruments and put it in the comments.
