A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.

Do you shine more working alone or in a group?
I work alone during the day and with a group at night. So I wake up as an introvert and go to sleep at night as an extrovert. Kind of splits my personality right down the middle. When I sleep alone that's not a problem. When I don't sleep alone...well then who cares about problems.
Damn links don't work.
During the day I do paralegal work alone at home. I get paid per page of every document I read and summarize. I'm not fantastic at it, but I'm good. I'm responsible and have never missed a firm deadline. On the other hand, I've missed a lot of soft deadlines and never overall earn the actual rate of pay that I should. That's because I allow myself to get distracted too easily and too often. On this tab I've got Ms. Jones' 50th description of her radial lumbar pain and on the next tab there's a pie fight raging at DKOS...and you know pie always smells the sweetest when you've got something boring to do....
Yeah. Maybe
At night I live in the exact opposite world. I manage a team of mostly 20-somethings who perform the hard lifting while I "expedite" their individual efforts. Non-stop physical action, and more bluster (& blunder) then intellectual concentration. If I do my job correctly their work day will flow much smoother than otherwise (then I'm a hero). If I'm off-track, they get backed up/messed up, and they'll usually stay that way till the end (then I'm a villain). Luckily, I'm almost never off-track. In fact, my record is so good on that that my rep is golden. That's compared to my morning job where my record sways between good and mediocre. In other words, I'm much more effective overall in a group environment.
The opposite is true for me.
My personal qualities on my day job vs my night job somewhat reflect my views on political activism as well. One person writing a diary can be very effective, but if that one person is writing in conjunction with group efforts that effectiveness can be magnified ten or one-hundred fold. One person can cast the right vote, but that's almost without effect unless others are enlisted to do likewise. An activist wants to expedite political change. Expediting voting can expedite political change, especially when done en masse and consistently.
What about you? Do you work best alone or in a team with others?

roberb7, who is the organizer of the newly formed Daily Kos Group Mexican Kossacks, provides a well-written recap of the recent Democrats Abroad event in Puerto Vallarta. Tom Hayden, a member of the California State Assembly for 18 years, was the guest speaker.
Please visit roberb7's diary for his excellent photos and a nicely detailed summary of the event. Enjoy! You can join Mexican Kossacks by sending a Kosmail to roberb7.
by GreyHawk ♥ for BOSTON KOSSACKS
While GreyHawk had many Kossacks sign up to attend his lunch and museum event, some had to cancel at the last minute because of a large snow storm rolling in. Four intrepid souls managed to attend: GreyHawk, HawkWife, Knockbally and deltadoc. I've always said that even two Kossacks is a meet-up and a very worthwhile one.
GreyHawk and his attendees pulled together a terrific re-cap diary with each person's written perspective and all the photos each Kossacks took of the snow and food pr0n. It's a fun diary and a great example of one way to document these meatspace events.
There's only one photo of some of the Kossacks who attended. So I'm going to post one of mine I took of GreyHawk and HawkWife when I met them in Providence at NN12.

by EagleOfFreedom ♥ for Seattle and Puget Sound Kossacks
I'm so impressed with the Seattle Kossacks, right now. EagleOfFreedom offered to take up the reins of collecting local Kossacks for camaraderie and action. In a very short time he started the group, communicated with me, set the event and got almost a dozen folks to join the ranks in person. Kudos!
So, you Seattle Kossacks, you've got a group now and John Crapper has offered to be an admin of the group. How swell is that?
SEATTLE KOSSACKS! Look for each other in the comments and gather together, invite one another and let's see more folk show up at the next event. AND the next action event.
To quote one of the attendees:
Once again Kossacks prove they are for real.
