It's Friday once more! And here in northern Florida it's been raining for the better part of 3 days again. It seems this winter/spring we are getting rain 3-4 days a week, with just time between for everything to dry out.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
Ok, we do have a diary schedule. But, when you are ready to write that diary, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMOM a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FloridaSNMOM is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.

Luckily we don't live in a flood zone, the river and the small ponds and lakes in the area are far enough away from us that we're not at risk. Our roads drain pretty quickly as well. This is as close as we get to a flood:
The brick at the bottom of the stairs tends to puddle, but it drains a lot faster since we've cleared more of the brick of the sand that used to cover it, now the puddle is gone within an hour or so of the rain stopping, it used to take a couple of days:
When it's raining we use the door off the kitchen which leads out to the laundry and the carport room so we don't drag mud and water into the living room. This saves on mopping the floor, especially with three dogs that need to go out through the day. We still get some puddles in the yard, but those drain quickly as well once the rain stops.
Bit took some pictures of the sunset on her birthday, and I thought I'd include some of those for a bit of added color.
Now, I have a more serious question... if we can build a pipeline across the country to carry oil from Canada to the Gulf Coast, why can't we build a pipeline to drain flood waters in one part of the country to deliver to areas suffering from drought? There would be less environmental risk, surely. If there's a leak, water can do some damage but it's a heck of a lot easier to clean up than oil and doesn't leave damage that will last for decades. Wouldn't that be a better use for such pipelines then selling off oil? Granted flooding affects different parts of the country in different years so we'd have to make the pumps more complex so we can switch direction when needed, but it still seems to me that would enable us to stop damage from flooding and drought both. I'm not an engineer though, maybe there's a reason that wouldn't work.
