Good Morning Kossacks and Welcome to Morning Open Thread (MOT)
We're known as the MOTley Crew and you can find us here every morning at 03:30 a.m. Pacific time. Feel free to volunteer to take a day - permanently or just once in awhile. With the Auto Publish feature you can set it and forget it. Sometimes the diarist du jour shows up much later: that's the beauty of Open Thread...it carries on without you! Volunteer in the comment threads

Grab a cup of coffee (or tea, if you prefer) and join us as we celebrate Meta-Free Friday: a small effort to conserve, educate, and celebrate meta on a truly ontological level. As I read through another handful of diaries aimed at answering the ultimate and, let's face it, unanswerable question--why are we here--I couldn't help thinking, "is it solipsistic in here, or is it just me?"
Although Republicans--and even many Libertarians--disagree, meta is a precious commodity, and I for one want to conserve it for our children and our children's children; we should think of ourselves as guardians of meta.
Some groups here will insist that we can't live without meta, that it is an important and necessary supplement to our virtual diet, that it is part of our revolutionary DNA. To that I say, "bosh!"
Lacking in heme iron? Try some delicious, easy to digest, DKOMA: it fills you with history, arts, and science, with a topping of whimsy.
Running a little low in B-12? Click on over to Readers and Book Lovers for a shot of intellectual stimulation, humor, and kindness. And, trust me, it's good for the soul.
Not getting enough protein from those winter legumes? While new to the market, I would still recommend DKos Photography; it will bulk you right up.
Searching for alternate sources of Vitamin D? Easy, log off this site, turn off the computer, forget the internets for a few minutes, and enjoy the out-of-doors.
In celebration of our first Meta-Free Friday, I leave you with a track from The Smiths' 1985 album Meta Is Murder: "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore."
