This is, of course, a reference to one of John Belushi's best films, the aforementioned "Animal House."
Since he was also in the best buddy comedy of all time Blues Brothers, it wasn't his best film.
Needless to say, the good folks at Foggy Bottom do not merit a Blues Brothers reference.
OK, now that I've got to explain this bit of cinematic geekery, which contains some spoilers about Animal House, so you have been warned.
Remember when, after the Delta House is closed down, they all go on a road trip, and they take Flounder's brother's car, a classic suicide door Lincoln on a road trip and beat the hell out of it?
While Flounder is sobbing, Otter makes the obvious observation, "You fucked up. You trusted us."
Sound familiar? Remember the taped phone call from Victoria "Fuck the EU, Married to Robert Kagan" Nuland? You know then one where she is all hunky dory with aggressively supporting the right wing bigots to get Yanukovych out of office?
The same ones who, once they got what they wanted in an EU brokered (remember the "Fuck the EU" quote) overthrew Yanukovych, and as one of their first actions forbade the use of Russian as an official language?
And now the Russians are in the Crimea, and there has been a (pretty suspicious 90%+) vote for secession from the Ukraine there.
Who would have thought that foreign policy formulated by the wife one of the founders for the Project for a New American Century would be a disaster? (BTW, Kagan still sits on a State Department advisory board)
After all, the neocons did so well in Iraq, and with their call for permanent bases in Saudi Arabia, and their insistence that Saddam was an ally of al Qeida.
I don't know how this whole thing will sort out in the Ukraine, but I'm pretty sure that it's going to be a clusterfuck, with the people of Crimea, and the people of the rest of Ukraine, whether Russian, Ukranian, Tatar, or other ethnicity, paying for this stupid hubris for years.
I say shame on Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and John Kerry for allowing people like Nuland and Kagan to influence our foreign policy after an unbroken record of failure and misery
The people of the Ukraine, most notably the majority of the Euromaiden protestors, who were neither right wing nor neo-Nazi bigots, who have seen their protest seized by the likes of Svoboda and the Right Sector militia (who have control of the military and interior ministries) on one side, and Vladimir Putin on the other, have my sympathy.
All they wanted was a better life, one where their leaders don't steal from them quite so much, and one where their oligarchs did not take it all, and they got this.
To them, I say, , "You fucked up. You trusted us."
You are learning the lessons of the Kurds, the Hmong, etc. They trusted us too.
