There are now two cases before the Supreme Court asserting the right of for-profit corporations to have religious beliefs and to enforce those beliefs on all of its employees.
Some conservatives even argue for the right of businesses to impose these beliefs on their customers. With the present make-up of the Supreme Court, which allows personhood and political free speech (i.e. donations) of corporations, this is not much of a stretch. This may well happen, I am afraid.
So, perhaps we should reinterpret long-standing religious dogma in light of these new revelations. I mean, since there would no longer be much (if any) of a separation between church and state...
Moses was not a leader seeking to free his people from slavery (and a, shudder, labor leader), he was a member of the one percent, Egyptian royalty, performing a cunning corporate takeover of some undervalued assets (the Jews) for his audacious start-up (Israel). Too bad he died before he could see the total fruition of his plan. Hey, shit happens.
Noah was a crafty entrepreneur cornering the livestock market. And it worked, brilliantly! Except maybe the market was a bit smaller due to the almost total extermination of humanity. But except for that, the plan was brilliant! Again, shit happens...
Contrary to Mormon belief, the Garden of Eden was not in Missouri, but in Delaware (for tax reasons).
So, what would stop corporations from creating their own religions, if they were allowed to have one? What is to stop them from doing that, simply for financial gain? Are we going to see a slew of religions created and headquartered on some Caribbean island in a mailbox? Rows and rows of nondescript mailboxes, all headquarters of major religions, all with only one follower? One big corporation. So what would these new religions be called?
Let's see..
The Church of the Almighty Dollar
Lex Lutherans
Our Lady of Perpetual Unpaid Overtime (and Sorrow)
The First United Church of Christ, I Hate These Foreigners!
Assembly of God, I Don't Want to Pay Any Taxes
or maybe,
We Don't Want Pay Any Damn Taxes, Period. Ever. Or Obey Any Government Regulation. Ever. And, Oh Yeah, We Are a Religion! For Tax And Regulation Purposes Only, We Don't Have to Obey Any Code of Conduct in Our Business Practices, Because, Like, It's Just Business, I Mean, It's Not Like We Have To Have Any Real Morals or Anything, Except When It Is Convenient For Us Or, Most Especially, Profitable. But We Are A Religion.
This where we are in this country, people.
Yes, it has become THIS STUPID.
