JUST when Virginia's 10th Congressional District finally opens up due to the impending retirement of Frank Wolf, Democrats are about to piss away the opportunity.
SEVEN candidates, ranging from conservative to rabid Teanutters, are jockeying for the Republican nomination. The current, but tenuous, leader is Barbara Comstock, from Fairfax County, who appears to be a bit to the right of Wolf - that is, she would be just another GOP hack but talk a little tougher on "conservative" issues. The others are mainly arrayed rightwards of her: Del. Robert G. Marshall (Prince William), Stephen Hollingshead, who worked in the administration of President George W. Bush; Howie Lind, a former Pentagon and defense industry official; Marc Savitt, head of the National Association of Independent Housing Professionals; Richard C. Shickle, chairman of the Frederick County Board of Supervisors; and Rob Wasinger, a former congressional aide.
Comstock has had yard signs out for weeks, and I've already seen ads from Hollingshead, claiming to be "more Conservative than thou".
Shickle is local, and I don't trust him - he certainly has not done anything to ease the budget crunch that the Handley Regional Library has been struggling to operate under.
According to the Washington Post, "John W. Foust, a member of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, is considered the front-runner for the Democratic nomination, which should be decided at an April 26 convention." But I haven't heard peep one from him OR the Virginia Democratic Party at any level, so what the hell good is that going to do?
Get a megaphone and get your act together, unless you LOOOOOVE playing Loserball!
