Welcome to the Tuesday edition of the Coffee Hour at Street Prophets. This is an open thread where we can discuss what’s happening in our lives, what we’ve been working on, and our opinions on current events. I thought I’d start today’s discussion by talking about obsolete technology.
Does anyone here remember….
Vinyl Records?
Eight-Tracks? Introduced as Stereo 8 and commonly called eight-track, this was a popular music recording technology in the U.S. from 1965 until the early 1980s. My only encounter with this was in a 1976 Oldsmobile Tornado that I used to own. According to some sources, the last commercial eight-track released by a major label was Fleetwood Mac’s Greatest Hits in November 1988.
Party Lines? With cell phones, of course, the whole idea of party lines seems remote. There was, however, a time in the development of landline telephones when customers shared lines. Often absolute strangers would have the same line.
Phones with dials and a bell that rang?
Phones with cranks?
TRS-80?
This is an open thread. Feel free to add more obsolete technology to this list. It’s also okay to talk about what you’ve been doing, posting, thinking about, and having for dinner.
