I have been wanting our torture program exposed for exactly what it is for over a decade now, Liz Cheney amongst all her nasty complicit bullshit does point at the reality:
"We've got too many in Washington who were all in favor of doing everything necessary to defend the the nation after 9/11, and now seem to be really not interested in looking at the facts, but really just looking for a way, frankly, to cast blame and say things that aren't true about those brave men and women," Cheney continued.
The bolding is mine.
Until G W Bush and her dear horrible father are behind bars [where they belong] then as far as I am concerned we are still hiding from the truth.
We broke the Geneva Conventions we helped create in a moment of fear and allowed torture.
We enabled a preemptive war in a moment of fear and broke some more the same conventions along the way.
We then consciously decided to unilaterally forget our actions in all of this, our leaders through fear of being shown to be complicit agreed.
It is still a bloody disgrace.
If Gen Hayden thinks that our lilly livered leaders are being emotional about things they buried their heads in the sand for so long, then he should talk to me.
We should have had a war crimes tribunal, but heck we won, so look over there, shiny.
We have spy agencies that believe they are answerable to no one, and they are probably right, for actions speak louder than the political rhetoric.
The reason we" moved on" is because the complicity on both sides of the aisle runs deep.
Panic passing laws such as The Patriot Act and all the other garbage legislation that we have failed to repeal because of fear.
Panic that the complicity shown when all and sundry knew we were proceeding with extraordinary rendition and torture [hell we haven't even managed to shut Guantanamo] when it could easily have been stopped.
Our leaders refused to face the truth before, during and after they decided vengeance was ours.
However one thing is for certain, nobody outside of the US is fooled.
