Rep. Vance McAllister may send a letter to House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) requesting an FBI investigation into the leak of a surveillance video that showed McAllister kissing a female staff member.Who knows if he'll actually follow through, but that is hilarious. Congressman gets caught cheating on camera ... and demands an FBI investigation into who exposed his indiscretion? It's so absurd that it feels like it must be a joke, but it's not. Even yesterday McAllister's office was talking about going down this path, saying they were "conducting our own investigation to seek out who leaked the video" because "a breach in security in a federal office is a grave concern."
The Monroe News-Star on Wednesday reported that McAllister planned to send the letter today, but a spokesperson for the congressman told TPM in an email that the first-term Louisiana Republican was still thinking it over.
Breach in security? Grave concern? C'mon. This is somebody leaking surveillance footage from the hallway of a random privately owned building that housed a district office for a congressman. It's no different than the videos you see of employees (or patrons) behaving badly in fast food restaurants. We shouldn't waste a dime of taxpayer money uncovering who snooped on his philandering ways. But hey, if McAllister wants to keep this issue on the front pages, then by all means, please proceed.
